Education:
1991-1995 Tufts University Medford, MA Graduated Summa Cum Laude in Physics and Mechanical Engineering
In addition to a lifelong exploration of painting, Jeff has studied and worked in the fields of physics and medical physics. Following his graduation from college, Jeff worked at the Harvard Cyclotron in Cambridge, MA, a proton radiation treatment facility, but managed to find time to paint everyday. Eventually, he left the field of science to pursue painting fulltime. He lived on a 250 acre horse ranch in Oregon for a couple of years before moving down the coast to San Francisco. After four years of painting, Jeff returned to the split fields of physics and art. Currently, he works in the Radiation Oncology Department of UCSF designing patient specific plans for the treatment of patients with brain and head and neck cancer. The combined influences of art and physics have helped develop a unique approach towards his painting, linking the abstraction of ideas and compositions with the physicality of the world. His subjects often focus on the elements of ideas and generalities in the constructs and the concepts of our modern environments, constructing worlds that are similar and representational to life but call attention to the mood and the sense of man’s influence. He continues to paint everyday and actively pursue the development of his art.
